The Holding Ground Festival is a creative activist response that explores the impact of domestic violence on young people.
Over three days, the festival will premiere a new play Holding Ground by Jack Dawson, created in collaboration with Tinderbox Theatre Company and feature a lineup of workshops:
Saturday 27 January
- Somatic Workshop
- Facilitated by Nicola Curry
- 10am – 11.30am
- Somatics is the experience of the body from within. This somatic movement workshop will involve gentle body movement. We will tune into our awareness and release tension and habitual patterns to find freedom and comfort in our movement choices.
- Dramatherapy Workshop
- Facilitated by Christine Cowan
- 12pm – 1.30pm
- Explore the intersection of storytelling and dramatherapy techniques in this workshop, where connections are drawn between participants' experiences and the themes of a story. Through drama, movement, sound, writing, and more, participants will foster creativity and self-awareness.
- Creative Writing Workshop
- Facilitated by Aoibh Johnson
- 4pm – 5.30pm
- This creative writing workshop will be a safe space for participants to explore how we can use creative writing as a daily practice to nurture our mental and creative well-being. With shared reading, creative exercises, and an opportunity to write collaboratively, we hope you'll leave this space feeling empowered and inspired.
Sunday 28 January
- Drum Circle Workshop
- Facilitated by Curious Community NI
- 11am – 1pm
- At a drum circle workshop, people come together to celebrate community and life through rhythm and music. It's not about musical expertise, but about creating rhythms on the day through cooperation and collaboration.
This festival is a partnership between Tinderbox, Women’s Aid NI, and Queen’s University Belfast.
