Join artist and tutor Alison Pascoe of ASTRL Fibres for this deep dive into the craft practice of Macramé: The Art of Knots.
Over the course of this 2 hour workshop, Alison will guide you through some basic knot skills to create a beautiful, and reusable, macrame wreath base. Participants will also be shown some basic wreath making techniques to embellish their wreath with some dried, fresh and foraged botanical material, along with tips on how to update your wreath through the seasons.
This course is suitable for absolute beginners and for those interested in further developing their macramé skills.The cost of the course includes the materials needed to complete a 175mm diameter wreath with a small botanical embellishment. Participants are encouraged to bring any fresh or dried botanical material that suits their preference.
About the tutor
Alison Pascoe is a Belfast based artist and craftsperson specialising in the craft practice of Macramé, the art of knot tying. Professionally practicing and teaching since 2016 as ASTRL Fibres, Alison is an accomplished macramé artist with a background in fine arts. Born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Alison studied sculpture and textiles at the Alberta University of the Arts before following her nomadic urge to travel and eventually put down roots in Northern Ireland.
From her East Belfast studio Alison explores heritage knot-work and cord weaving techniques using a variety of natural materials and sustainable methods, a practice that allows her to connect to mindful spaces between work and play. Alison describes her work as handcrafted objects for modern spaces, with an ethos to discover new perspectives on traditional craft. A member of the Heritage Crafts Association, The International Guild of Knot Tyers, Craft NI’s Makers Directory and Decowell Restoration (a Belfast based conservation and decorative arts studio), Alison recognises the importance of championing heritage crafts to keep traditional techniques like Macramé, in practice.
