Join us for an evening of enchanting and meditative Indian classical music featuring the mesmerising sounds of the sitar and the tabla, with Shakir Khan and Nitin Prabhakar.

Experience the rich musical heritage of India through a captivating live performance that promises to transport you to a world of deep spiritual connection and musical bliss.

 

Shakir Khan, one of the most promising young sitar players of the legendary Etawah Gharana (distinctive musical lineage).  He is the eighth-generation torchbearer of this distinguished musical lineage. His father and guru is the renowned sitar maestro Ustad Shahid Pervez, and Shakir Khan carries forward a rich tradition of sitar and surbahar, tracing back to his grandfather Ustad Aziz Khan, great-grandfather Ustad Wahid Khan, and grand-uncle Ustad Vilayat Khan.

With a deep command of sur (melody) and laya (rhythm), Shakir Khan has presented his rich musical heritage in many prestigious festivals in India.

Shakir Khan’s performances captivate audiences worldwide. His artistry extends beyond classical music, seamlessly blending into international projects such as the European Jazz Ensemble (Germany) and Human Evolution (Spain). He has also performed extensively across the US, Canada and Europe, including a celebrated performance at Woodstock Festival, Poland (2008)

Recognised for his contributions to Indian classical music, Shakir Khan has received several accolades. A brilliant performer and dedicated mentor, Shakir Khan continues to spellbind audiences worldwide with the depth, elegance and innovation of his music.

Nitin Prabhakar will be accompanying Shakir Khan on the tabla. Nitin’s journey in tabla began in India. He is currently pursuing his training under Shri Shailesh Shenoy in Bangalore. Nitin is based in Dublin, Ireland and has accompanied renowned vocalists and instrumentalists in both India and Ireland, bringing his own unique artistry to stage. Nitin’s expertise on the tabla will add depth and rhythm to the evening.
