Literary Journals: A Panel Discussion

Come along for a conversation about literary journals! Ireland’s culture of literary journals is the strongest it’s been in decades - perhaps ever.

For this year’s Belfast Book Festival join Laura Cassidy of Banshee Press, Dean Fee from The Pig’s Back and Gregory McCartney of Abridged, to talk about what they do, how they do it, and its connectivity into the wider cultural landscape. 

Laura Cassidy is publisher and co-editor at the literary journal and small press Banshee, where along with her co-founders she was named a Bookseller Rising Star. Her novels for young adults were published by Penguin Ireland, and her short fiction is forthcoming in The Pig’s Back. She is a recipient of the Cecil Day Lewis Literary Bursary Award from Kildare County Council, and a Literature Bursary Award from the Arts Council of Ireland.

Dean Fee is a writer and editor from Cavan. His work has appeared in The Stinging Fly, The Dublin Review, The London Magazine and more. He is the Managing Editor for The Pig's Back and is currently working on a novel.  

Gregory McCartney is the project coordinator/curatorial Editor of the Abridged project, and also the Editor of the Honest Ulsterman. He is the project coordinator of the HUMAN (Honest Ulsterman Magazine Archive Network), an online archive of Irish poetry magazines. He is also a former director of the Context Gallery (now the CCA Derry/Londonderry) and is a freelance curator and exhibitions organiser and has curated shows at numerous venues including Void, Derry, the MAC, Belfast and Galway Arts Centre.
