Writing Portraits and Self-portraits

This interactive live course focuses on portraits and self-portraits in poetry, fiction, reflective writing and memoir. You will write a series of portraits and self-portraits in a variety of forms and create characters studies for stories and drama, as well as memoir pieces.

You will draw from a range of literature as inspiration, as well as ideas about portraiture and self-portraiture from art history. Prompts and feedback will also be given between sessions. If you are working on a novel, a poetry collection, a biography or a memoir, you are welcome use this course to focus on this.

This course is suitable for writers of all kinds with all levels of experience. It takes place on Google Classroom, with communication by email. Tutor experience of facilitating writing courses on Google Classroom shows that this platform is accessible, easy to use, and encourages writing.

Participants will be invited to take part in an optional reading on Zoom at the end of the course.
