Tie-Dye: Using Shibori Techniques and Indigo Dye

This 5 week programme is an informal introduction to the beautiful Japanese practice of Shibori. On this programme participants will learn shibori stitching techniques as well as the more recognisable techniques of folding, clamping and binding fabric to make unique patterns. The final session will be a longer 4hr session allowing participant’s to dye the pieces that they have worked on throughout the course.

About the Tutor

Jo-Anne Cairns was born in Belfast and lived in Southern Africa for over 20 years. She has a long employment history of working in Human Resources and Learning and Development. Jo-Anne has successfully completed the Level 5 Diploma in Learning and Development from the Chartered Institute of Personal Development (CIPD).

Outside of her employment, Jo-Anne has a great love and interest in working with textile arts specifically the Art of Shibori and Indigo Dyeing.

Jo-Anne enjoys using various Shibori techniques and never tires of the surprise and delight experienced with each unique creation. In 2021 Jo-Anne had the pleasure of enhancing her own Shibori skills and knowledge with international expert Jane Callender.
