This course is an open level Festival Irish dance class.
Festival Irish Dancing is both a sport and an art form that is unique to Northern Ireland. It is a cross-community tradition and welcomes people from all backgrounds! Festival Irish dancing combines footwork and technique with storytelling and interpretation, allowing dancers to express themselves through performance.
Through this 6-week Summer course you will focus on the fundamentals of Irish dance and slowly build up to learn solo dances such as a reel, some jigs, and even some team dances!
The sessions will be relaxed and fun and will provide you with an opportunity to meet new people, improve your fitness and have lots of craic!
No special equipment is required. We would advise that you bring trainers you could dance in if that is most comfortable for you.
About the Tutor
I started my career as an Irish Dance Teacher in Holywood, Co Down in 2016. I am currently still a competitive Irish Dancer myself, and I have a strong passion for teaching. More recently, I have found a love of choreographing solo heavy shoe pieces and team-based routines such as couples and larger team dances.
I have performed in a variety of shows which blend Irish Dance footwork with contemporary arm work such as a show called "An Féileacán Agus an Rí", performed as part of the Belfast Children's Festival in 2020 and "Chrysalis" at the Northern Ireland Dance Championships in 2020.
