Sewing Machine: Beginners

This 7-week course has been designed for those with very little experience of using a Sewing Machine and aims to help you make a garment for the first time. Although this course is for beginners, you should be able to thread and operate a sewing machine.

Throughout the term, you will be making a blouse. Everyone will be making the same pattern but there are lots of opportunities to customise.

Throughout the term you will learn;

• Understanding and choosing the right fabric for your garment.
• How to read a paper pattern and choose the size for your shape.
• How to make basic adjustments to the pattern before cutting fabric.
• How to cut fabric using the paper pattern.
• Constructing the blouse and adjusting the fit
• Setting in sleeves
• Bias binding the neckline
• Adding details to your blouse.

Students are required to bring their own Sewing Machine and a full list of materials will be sent to you in advance of the course starting.
