Individual artistic expression is not something that can be taught, but skill can be!
In this 10-week information packed course, students will learn how to create a classically realistic oil portrait through step-by-step tuition and demonstration.
Working from the same image, provided by the tutor, students will learn how to paint a with modern materials using traditional techniques of the Old Masters. Each week, students will learn new techniques from initially transferring their image to canvas, then learn about the importance of value in creating their underpainting and grisaille before moving onto colour theory and covering the methods used in layering, glazing, velatura and fine detail.
With a strong emphasis on methodology, structure and observation, the aim of this course is to teach the fundamentals of classical oil painting and in doing so gain knowledge and confidence in oil painting in general.
