Oil Painting: Working from a Still Life Image

Have you ever wanted to learn to paint with oil paint, but not sure if you could master the medium? Well, this class is for you.

Open to beginners and improvers, the tutor will take you through a step-by-step process of creating your own oil painting. From outlining your composition on canvas, mixing colours, improving brushwork, working with mediums, building up layers and glazes, you will work towards your own completed masterpiece.  

Over this 10-week course, each student will be working from the same still life image, supplied by the tutor, who will be showing you, through weekly demonstrations and one to one tuition, the complexities of working with oil paint and the techniques used to overcome the challenges.  

Materials list and reference images will be shared with you by The Crescent once you have booked your spot. 

About the tutor

Natasha Barr is a visual freelance painter and educator who teaches at various art centres throughout Belfast and Donegal as well as online courses. She works in various mediums, such as oil, acrylic, watercolour & charcoal depicting landscape, still life and portrait scenes.

Originally from Donegal, Natasha moved to Belfast and completed her BA(Hons) degree at Belfast College of Art in 1995 – 1998. Since then, Natasha has trained under many acclaimed artists, mainly focusing on the old masters.
