About the tutor

Alison Pascoe is a Belfast based artist and craftsperson specialising in the craft practice of Macramé, the art of knot tying. Professionally practicing and teaching since 2016 as ASTRL Fibres, Alison is an accomplished macramé artist with a background in fine arts. Born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Alison studied sculpture and textiles at the Alberta University of the Arts before following her nomadic urge to travel and eventually put down roots in Northern Ireland.

From her East Belfast studio Alison explores heritage knot-work and cord weaving techniques using a variety of natural materials and sustainable methods, a practice that allows her to connect to mindful spaces between work and play. Alison describes her work as handcrafted objects for modern spaces, with an ethos to discover new perspectives on traditional craft. A member of the Heritage Crafts Association, The International Guild of Knot Tyers, Craft NI’s Makers Directory and Decowell Restoration (a Belfast based conservation and decorative arts studio), Alison recognises the importance of championing heritage crafts to keep traditional techniques like Macramé, in practice.
