Still Life is the art of drawing and painting inanimate objects, fruit, flowers, food and everyday things.
Throughout this 7-week course, you will explore the endless possibilities of still life subject matter as you focus on colour, tone and composition through a range of studio setups.
This structured course will give you the skills and confidence to develop your understanding of observational drawing and guidance of painting in either watercolour, acrylic or oil.
You will initially start with line and tone observational drawing before embarking on painting and develop your perception of colour and how it is influenced by both its surroundings and light.
During the term it will be possible for you to carry out sustained work on the same picture for several weeks or a new still life compositions each week.
Paper, pencils and charcoal provided but feel free to bring your own chosen medium of paint and brushes.
About the Tutor
Natasha Barr is a visual freelance painter who tutors art at various art centres throughout Belfast as well as private tuition. She works in various medium capturing landscape, still life, portrait and abstract paintings. Originally from Donegal, Natasha moved to Belfast and completed her BA(Hons) degree at Belfast College of Art in 1995 – 1998.
Her work has been shown at the number of venues, most recently, at the Royal Ulster Academy (RUA) in the Ulster Museum in 2017 and her work is held in private collections throughout the world.
