Demystifying Contracts & Authors’ Rights

Belfast Book Festival

So, you’ve written your work and have been offered a contract. What next and what does it mean?

Come along and join Society of Authors Contracts Advisors, Elizabeth Haylett Clark and Johanna Clarke, who will explain common contractual terms you might encounter and flag pitfalls you’ll want to avoid.

Also up for discussion are the fundamentals of your rights as an author including your copyright and moral rights.

Elizabeth Haylett Clark is a Senior Contracts Advisor at The Society of Authors, where she is part of the advisory team answering queries on all kinds of matters relating to the business of publishing and commenting in detail on members’ contracts.  Elizabeth has also worked as part of the SoA Literary Estates team and as Coordinator for the Educational Writers Group.

Johanna Clarke is a Contracts Advisor at The Society of Authors. She advises members on publishing contracts and issues and works closely on the Society of Author’s outreach programme. Johanna is the Coordinator for the Poetry and Spoken Word Special Interest Group and a co-host of the newly launched podcast, The SoA Advisory Clinic. She previously worked as a Contracts Executive for a literary agency.
