Creative Living

Self Heal

Creative Living is a guided journey of self-discovery that looks at the creativity inherent in each of us which often gets blocked and for many gets interrupted by the challenges of modern day living. You will discover talents you never knew you had, perhaps for writing, painting, music or you may finally get to pursue that idea you have for a business.

All that is required of you is a desire and a commitment to prioritise your own needs and wishes for a life you will enjoy. You will learn to focus and set goals for yourself in your personal/professional life. You will acquire techniques on how to put your plan into action. Through this creative process you will familiarise yourself with life-enhancing strategies to integrate into your everyday life.

By the end of the term, you will be more aware of who you are and the things in life that bring you joy and purpose. It will open you up new ideas and ways of looking at yourself and the world around you.

It is for anyone who craves time out to re-think, re-evaluate and re-invent their lives in a challenging, innovative and fun way. The tutor Ursula creates a non-judgemental environment where people feel safe to be themselves.

About the Tutor

Ursula McHugh is Founder and Director of a programme called Creative Living and her background is in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy/Yoga and Stress Management.

As a Motivator, Speaker and skilled facilitator, she has been running a diverse range of courses and workshops on a variety of subjects relating to health/wellbeing, creativity and reinvention and she also has the experience of working across Health, Social Care, Education and the Voluntary sectors as well as Theatre work.

Alongside her practice, she is also a singer/performer and in addition to her solo career she has run a number of sell out theatre shows at The Playhouse Theatre, Derry in conjunction with the City of Derry Jazz Festival.  Last year in the iconic Guildhall she paid homage to the very talented women who have contributed to the festival over the past 24 years in a new show called ‘Ursula in Company’ a theatre chat show, a unique blend of music, song, conversation and repartee.

The most recent Ursula in Company was at Heaney Homeplace to celebrate International Women’s Day March 8th ’25 with ‘Real Women Big Lives’ celebrating older women in the arts. The conversations were interspersed with song, tunes, poetry, dance etc. A way to inspire audiences that it’s never too late to begin again, to get back on track and show up for yourself during or after life’s most difficult challenges. It has been well demonstrated that the arts continue time after time to show evidence of healing for both those who create and for those who participate.

At this year’s City of Derry Jazz Festival Ursula is going to be part of an exciting new ensemble called ‘Women in Black’ putting their own modern take on some of the most exquisite melodies and jazz standards of the golden era.

She has committed her career to the belief in the uniqueness and creativity inherent in each of us and encourages all who come within her radar to honour their creativity to help improve and enhance the quality of their lives.
