This 7-week week course will be taught by two incredible dancers; Vasiliki Stasinaki and Michael McEvoy. This will give students the opportunity to learn from two professional dancers.
Contemporary dance is a term encompassing a variety of dance techniques and this course is a perfect introduction to this dance style.
This 7-week course focuses on training the body and learning basic technical dance skills. You will explore release and floor work to a variety of musical genres.
Lessons will start with warm-up technique exercises and then move into dynamic sequences, which may jump and travel across the floor.
Learn movement sequences and improve your performance whilst having fun!
About the tutor
Vasiliki Stasinaki is a member of Maiden Voyage Dance Company here in Belfast.
She is a dance and visual artist who was born in Greece but is now based in Belfast based and who studied at the Greek State School of Dance, the Greek National Ballet School and Northern School of Contemporary Dance. She has worked with numerous companies such as the Greek National Ballet, Ludus Dance (UK), Pair Dance (UK), Maiden Voyage Dance (NI), Dylan Quinn Dance Theatre (NI), Springs Dance Company (UK), Liz Roche Dance Company (IR), Tinderbox Theatre Company (NI) and Company Philip Connaughton (IR).
Additionally she has collaborated with choreographers such as Evangelia Kolyra, Filip Van Huffel, Fearghus O’Conchuir, Freddie Opoku-Addaie, Enrique Cabrera, Eleesha Dreannan, Darren Ellis and Rachel Lopez de la Nieta.
Vasiliki has also studied art and design at University of Arts London and Belfast School of Art, Ulster University.
Michael McEvoy is a Belfast based dance researcher and maker. Specialising in contemporary dance performance and choreology, Michael has had the great pleasure to work in TV, Film, Cruises, Musical Theatre, Opera and most commonly dance theatre.
An Alumni of Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance, Michael graduated in 2019 with a First Class BA(Hons) Degree in contemporary dance and was awarded The Sylvia Bodmer Memorial Fund for exceptional research into Choreology.
Michael is the current choreographic 'Reveal' Artist with Prime-cut Productions. A two year residency program Belfast 2023-25 to mentor and aid the development of his next work. You can catch Michaels latest piece ’Our Boys’ March 2023 in the MAC Belfast as part of Young At Arts Belfast Children’s Festival.
