Contemporary dance is a term encompassing a variety of dance techniques and this course is a perfect introduction to this dance style.
This 9-week course focuses on training the body and learning basic technical dance skills. You will explore release and floor work to a variety of musical genres.
Lessons will comprise of warm-up technique exercises and then move into dynamic sequences, which may jump and travel across the floor.

About the Tutor
Gary Rowntree trained at The Northern School of Contemporary Dance and later at Newcastle College. Since graduating, Gary has toured as a dancer and is choreographing, researching and teaching dance across the UK.
In 2011 he set up Gary Rowntree | Dance. His work has been seen at many dance and theatre festivals including Echo Echo Fest, Bounce Festival, Evolve, East Side Arts Festival, Cloud Dance Festival, Pick N Mix, Fresh (North East) and Outburst Queer Arts Festival.
Most recently Gary has worked as the choreographer for Plan B Productions Roaring Twenties, Terra Nova Productions (The Belfast Tempest), Derry International Music Festival (Sasquatch: Peter O’Doherty) Partisan Productions (The Nativity | 100 Years on | East Belfast Boy | I never see the prettiest thing) and Artscare (Here&Now Festival).
Gary is also currently working as a coordinator and lecturer of dance in a range of Secondary and further/higher education Colleges.
