Traditional Irish Banjo and Mandolin: Beginners

This is an introduction to Irish traditional music on the Irish Tenor (4-string) Banjo or Mandolin - students with either instrument are very welcome.

This course is designed for complete beginners — no previous experience is needed, and everyone is welcome.

You will learn the basic techniques and some simple, enjoyable tunes, all in a relaxed and supportive environment.

To fully get to grips with your instrument, it is recommended you join The Crescent's Beginners Continuation course, beginning after the half term. 

About the Tutor

James has been playing the banjo for over 20 years and is a skilled multi-instrumentalist with a deep love for traditional music.

A regular performer on Belfast’s vibrant session scene, he has travelled widely across Europe and America, sharing and learning music along the way.

James believes that music is for everyone and is passionate about creating inclusive, welcoming spaces where players of all backgrounds and abilities can feel at ease.
