This course is an introduction to Tap for those new to this style of dance.
The course focuses on learning simple tap steps followed by basic Rhythm patterns with simple combinations that include shuffles, stomps, riffs, pullbacks, etc. You will be guided through each new technique step by step to help teach you the essential sounds and rhythms at your own pace!
You will focus on building flexibility of the knee and ankles, coordination, and speed of movement, but mostly have fun whilst trying something new.
You will learn different styles of tap dancing from the more traditional styles as performed by Fred Astaire & Gene Kelly to more modern styles popularised by groups like Tap Dogs & Syncopated Ladies.
As well as the individual steps, you will working on learning a combination to music which will be extended each week
No previous training is required, but you will need tap shoes.
About the Tutor
Siobhan "Shibby'' Parker trained across styles of dance in Australia from age 3, first Ballet and Jazz before picking up Tap, Contemporary, Musical Theatre & Hip-Hop. Siobhan trained at the prestigious Brent Street Studios. She completed her RAD grade examination’s, was a Junior company member of ‘Tapworks’ and a competition dancer for 10+ years.
Siobhan completed high school at T.D.H.S (Talent Development High School), she went on to obtain her Cert IV In Performing Arts at Brent Street and undertook further training at The Village Performing Arts centre.
Siobhan has worked as a teacher, performer and creative in Australia for the last 15 years. She has taught at multiple schools across Sydney & was a faculty member at Sydney Tap Festival in 2019, 2020 & 2021, before moving to Ireland where she started her own local classes.
Her most notable performing credits are as a company member of ‘Girls on Tap’ (singing female tap dancers) appearing in sold out stage show seasons, corporate/charity events & abroad in NYC at the ‘Rave Theatre Festival’. She performed as a company member in the FORGE tap projects production “Alpha” and toured in the Jamestown Collective Stage Show.
Additional Credits include TV appearances on ‘Mornings with Kerry Anne’, ‘Sunrise’ & ‘Home and Away’, the ‘Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards’, ‘Manly Jazz Festival’, ‘Wateraid Ball’ and ‘Short & Sweet Cabaret’. Siobhan is also a professional fire dancer who has performed at music festivals, shows & events both in Australia & Ireland.
