"Somewhere in the heartlands, in a town called “Americana USA", nestles a particular variety of singer-songwriter ” someone who views a melodic sensibility through the bottom of a whiskey glass. Canadian songstress Lynne Hanson could run for mayor of that town." R2 Magazine.
This March Music Capital and The Crescent are excited to welcome two-time Canadian Folk Music Award winner, Lynne Hanson to Belfast.
Too tough for folk and too blues-influenced for country, Lynne Hanson’s brand of “porch music with a little red dirt” can turn on a dime ” shifting from sunshine-soaked ballads to gritty, thunderstorm-driven Americana. Her hard-living sound has earned her the nickname “Canada’s own Queen of Americana”. While her deep, bluesy croon has drawn comparisons to Lucinda Williams and Gillian Welch, it is the raw poetry of her lyrics that truly sets her apart.
A two-time Canadian Folk Music Award winner, she is renowned for her high-energy, roots-driven performances. On stage, she connects with audiences through a rare combination of authenticity, humour, and emotional honesty.
Over a 20-year solo career, Lynne has released ten studio albums and two books of poetry. She released her tenth album, Just A Poet, in May 2024. The album was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award for Contemporary Album of the Year. Along the way, she has earned multiple accolades, including two Canadian Folk Music Awards and the Colleen Peterson Songwriting Award. She has toured extensively across North America, Europe, and the UK, performing at leading international festivals such as Take Root (Netherlands), Glasgow Americana (Scotland), Maverick Festival (UK), Kerrville Folk Festival (USA), and the Winnipeg Folk Festival (Canada). She has also toured in support of Grammy-nominated artists including Gretchen Peters, Steve Forbert, and Albert Lee.
