During the 12-week term you will work from the figure to explore line, tone, scale, gesture and composition in an open-minded manner, freed from the constraints of representation.
Whether you’d like to come to learn how to draw the figure or you wish to expand your drawing practice, this course features a “hands on, hands off” approach therefore it is suitable for various levels, particular for those wishing to expand from a post-beginner level and those who wish to expand their drawing practice.
Please note that materials are not included in the price. A list of essential and recommended materials will be shared in advance of the course commencing.
Meet the Tutor
Dr. Patrick Hickey is an artist and researcher. Since graduating in 2015, he has exhibited his work throughout the UK and Ireland, presenting several solo exhibitions and participating in notable group shows, including at The MAC, Belfast (2022–23) and Townhall, Cavan (2023). His most recent exhibitions include a group exhibition with the BEEP Painting Biennale (2024–25), as well as two solo exhibitions at Ards Art Centre, Newtownards (2025) and QSS, Belfast (2026).
In 2025, he completed a practice-based PhD at Ulster University. His work has been featured in The Irish Arts Review, and through his PhD research he has contributed to several publications and conferences. Notably, he published a book chapter in The Routledge Companion to Irish Art (2025).
