Hailing from the Glens of Antrim and Belfast, Runabay are six musicians who through a passion for musicality, innovation and melody have been writing and recording since 2014.
The band is at the forefront of fresh, new music in Ireland, a sound which has undeniably been shaped by the beautiful coastline which surrounds the Glens of Antrim and is felt through the swooping melodies and poignant lyrics. The band produce a mature sound that leaves the listener hanging on the intricate guitar riffs, euphoric three-part harmonies and haunting cello.
An ever-evolving, innovative musical project, Runabay continues to push and form new musical and artistic boundaries. Following the success of recent singles ‘Blink of an Eye’ and ‘Symmetry’ both of which saw the band earn a stream of national radio plays and gain the accolade of ‘Play Irish Artist of the Week’ on Today FM.
The band has previously been described as alt-folk or indie, but the concept-driven and adventurous nature of their song writing push the band into new territory.
Runabay have featured on and been championed by the likes of Steve Lamacq (BBC 6 Music), Tom Robinson (BBC 6 Music), Ralph McLean (BBC Radio Ulster) and have appeared on official high-profile Spotify playlists of late, including Best of Indie Folk, Alternative 2017 New Music Friday, Fresh Finds: Six Strings and Best of Ruby Sessions 2017. They have also gained plenty of accolades including being nominated for ‘Irish Single of the Year’ in 2015, along with a string of glowing press features from Hot Press Magazine, ChordBlossom and Culture Hub NI.
The band’s live performances have been hailed as ‘joyous’, with influences including Bon Iver, Fleet Foxes, and Glen Hansard among others. The band are set to release their debut album in early 2019.
