Northern Ireland is synonymous with producing some of the best singer / songwriters in the world and Belfast’s Michael Kerr is no exception.
A regular on the local music scene, we are delighted to welcome Michael to The Crescent as he launches his much-anticipated EP, Treasure Chest.
Michael’s talent is some-what of a hidden gem, but this EP un-locks the potential of this shining star and music fans will fall in love with his gravelly, bluesy emotive songs.
This five track EP, supported by The Arts Council NI, features organic, poetic compositions beautifully written and performed by Michael and is masterfully produced by another established home-grown virtuoso, Gareth Dunlop. Michael has also called on Northern Ireland’s finest session musicians to execute the recordings.
Influenced by the likes of Lou Reed, Van Morrison, Cat Stevens, Paul Simon and Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, Michael’s song-writing has evolved to form melody driven songs on a foundation of swelling guitars and heartfelt lyrics.
Michael says; “I’ve waited quite a while to launch this EP. The songs have been ever evolving for years and I’ve been nurturing and tweaking them to ensure that I’m 100% happy with the finished product. Gareth Dunlop, who is producing this album, has given me priceless advice and he’s a great sounding board. He has also helped to instill my confidence as a songwriter. I must also give a special thank you to The Arts Council NI who awarded me with a grant, which afforded me the luxury and pleasure of inviting Northern Ireland’s best musicians to perform on the EP with me. The lads are all looking forward to performing at the launch too. I’m particularly excited to share the birth of ‘Treasure Chest’ in the suitably intimate surroundings of The Crescent Arts Centre.”
In the lead up to the official launch, Michael will embark on a Bailies coffee shop tour around the province, to give people a taste of what to expect at the official launch. The acoustic coffee shop tours will simultaneously raise money for The Northern Ireland Hospice.
