Imagine Festival

This March we are excited to welcome Imagine Festival as they bring to The Crescent a whole host of events.

At its best, publishing is one of the most absorbing, challenging and rewarding pursuits imaginable. At its worst, it is frustrating, exhausting and financially hazardous. Recognising this, in 2008 NIPR produced Publishing for Success with the aim of guiding first-time authors through each stage of the book publishing journey, from manuscript to the printed copy for sale. It provides a body of information on good practice in all aspects of preparing, producing and distributing publications.

Now in its third edition, and recently updated to take account of developments across the industry, Publishing for Success is a source of invaluable advice for anyone who wants to bring their work to publication.

Join us for a panel discussion with:

Geraldine Delaney: NIPR Board Member and Ulster University librarian
Wesley Johnston: Publisher at Colourpoint Books and Blackstaff Press
Michelle Griffin: Freelance Editor and Proofreader
Paul Feldstein: Literary Agent and Book Publishing Consultant
Jo Zebedee: Author and owner of The Secret Bookshelf bookshop

The new edition of Publishing for Success marks the twenty-first year of NIPR’s establishment as an important member of Northern Ireland’s memory institutions. Its core mission, funded by the Department for Communities, is to build a comprehensive collection of Northern Ireland publications.

The NIPR collection has developed into a body of writing across all disciplines and interests. It includes diverse creative work, as well as historical records, scientific, cultural and social publications. In particular, NIPR has been assiduous in identifying, collecting and preserving works with a local focus, often with short print runs, which may not be picked up by other libraries with a broader remit. The growth in electronic publishing means that NIPR will address the need to capture and preserve the growing body of material published in Northern Ireland in this format.

Copies of Publishing for Success will be available for everyone attending this event.
