This November, South African based dancer Lucia Walker will present a programme of work at The Crescent as part of Echo Echo’s Festival of Dance and Movement.
In the first piece she will lead a band of movement artists comprised of Echo Echo’s ensemble and an ensemble of 4 Russian guests in an improvisation piece which will be accompanied by two Derry-based musicians. Lucia will spend a week working with the ensembles, spending half of their time dancing together in the studio and the other half going to schools, community centres and outdoor spaces to perform 30 minute instant compositions.
The second piece will be a solo performance by Lucia Walker. Lucia is an internationally renowned artist and Alexander technique teacher. She has been practicing and teaching Contact Improvisation since 1986. She first encountered the form in workshops with Steve Paxton, Nancy Stark-Smith and Kirstie Simson.
