Mexican Ballet combines traditional folk dances from Mexico with contemporary and ballet techniques allowing you to explore a wide range of movement. Each week the tutor will guide you on a journey of cultural exploration through dance.
You will start the class with a classical barre warm up followed by contemporary centre work and finish with a Mexican dance routine incorporating all the elements of the class.
During the course you will learn skirt movements, foot technique, turns and the use of traditional props like hats, scarfs and maracas or sticks.
By the end of the course you will be able to perform Mexican Ballet routines practiced during the term.
This is a great opportunity to explore a new dance technique and learn about another culture in a fun atmosphere.
About the tutor

She has developed her own performing and teaching style using her own experience while travelling, dancing and learning.
Mayte’s training includes Performing Arts (dance), Ballet Education, Dance Theatre, Contemporary and Creative Dance as well as Latin, Hawaiian and Mexican folk dance. Her specialist area is early years, delivering baby ballet classes and creative dance workshops for young children and adults.
